qntm (pronounced “quantum”) is the pen name of Sam Hughes, a British science fiction author, software developer, and mathematician known for highly conceptual speculative fiction. His work often takes an unusual scientific or philosophical premise and follows its implications to increasingly strange—and frequently terrifying—conclusions. He is best known for There Is No Antimemetics Division, along with Ra, Fine Structure, and short fiction such as Lena and Valuable Humans in Transit. Outside fiction, Hughes is also the creator of Absurdle, the adversarial Wordle variant that changes its possible answer in response to the player’s guesses.
