About Kiran Desai

Kiran Desai is an Indian author born in New Delhi on September 3, 1971, and the daughter of acclaimed novelist Anita Desai. After growing up in India, she moved first to England and then to the United States, where she studied creative writing at Bennington College, Hollins University, and Columbia University. Her novels include Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard (1998), the Booker Prize–winning The Inheritance of Loss (2006), and The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny (2025), which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Her fiction frequently explores immigration, cultural displacement, globalization, family relationships, identity, and the experience of living between India and the West.
