Jessamine Chan is an American novelist best known for her acclaimed 2022 debut, The School for Good Mothers, a dystopian novel exploring motherhood, surveillance, race, and society’s expectations of parents. A graduate of Brown University and Columbia University’s MFA program, she previously worked as a reviews editor at Publishers Weekly and has published short fiction in literary journals including Tin House and Epoch. The School for Good Mothers became a New York Times bestseller, was selected for Read with Jenna and named one of Barack Obama’s favorite books of 2022, and has been optioned for television by Jessica Chastain’s Freckle Films. Chan lives in Chicago with her family.
